Christiane Hudon
Dr. Christiane Hudon currently carries out research on the cumulative impacts of human activities and climatic variability on the diversity and productivity of large river ecosystems. Dr. Hudon holds a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from Laval University (Québec, Canada) and is currently a Research Scientist with Environment Canada at the St. Lawrence Centre, in Montreal. Her studies focus on aquatic plants (cyanobacteria, algae and macrophytes) as indicators of water quantity (water levels and flows) and quality (nutrient enrichment). As a Canadian government expert, she provided scientific advice for the assessment of alternative regulation plans for the Lake Ontario discharge into the St. Lawrence River (International Joint Commission) and for the adoption of the Canadian regulation to lower the limit of the concentration of phosphorus in household detergents. Her presentation today provides an overview of the cumulative effects of human activities on the St. Lawrence River ecosystem.
