Dr. Clive Howard-Williams
Dr. Clive Howard-Williams is the Chief Scientist for Freshwater and Coasts in New Zealand’s National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research Ltd. (NIWA). Clive completed his PhD in wetland ecology at the University of London and has worked in many countries from the tropics to the poles (including two research projects at the Universite Laval, Quebec, working in the High Arctic). His research has centered on productivity and nutrient cycling in aquatic ecosystems. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and has also been involved in aquatic consultancy work over the last 25 years in the area of ecological impact assessments. Clive has served on the editorial Boards of several journals, he was a past Vice-President of the international Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and he has sat on many boards and national strategic science committees in New Zealand. His talk will be on Diffuse Pollution and Fresh Water Degradation, with a special emphasis on the pathways of diffuse pollutants into natural waters, their impacts and options for management.
